A complete redesign for this substantial Forest Hill garden. Rendered retaining walls manage the slope, with Millboard composite steps transitioning between levels. Oak raised beds frame the upper lawn, softened with naturalistic perennial planting including verbena and grasses for wildlife.

Chunky oak raised beds and handmade brickpaving create an informal feel in this Camberwell garden makeover. The existing layout was retained and refreshed, with planted pockets woven through the paving for low-growing plants

DESIGN & build
Garden design packages are completely tailored to your needs, including a detailed brief meeting, lots of layout and concept ideas, master and planting plans.
Full build coordination is managed in-house, keeping the process straightforward from the beginning to end.
Check our blog for a guide on costs and what to expect from the process.
PLANTING
Some gardens don't need rebuilding - they just need planting that works. You'll receive a tailored planting plan based on the light, soil and character of the garden. We always encourage wildlife-friendly schemes with an emphasis on texture, layering, and how plants develop together over time. All planting is sourced and installed in-house.
Consultation
One-to-one consultations are available for clients who don’t need a full redesign.
These sessions help clarify layout, materials and planting, and include a written summary of the recommendations.
You can read more about how these sessions work in the consultation post on our blog.
Patchworks is a South London garden design practice focused on contemporary, highly considered spaces that work for everyday life, run by Joe Twigg.
I handle everything in-house - from initial design concepts through to build coordination and planting - which keeps the process straightforward and the design consistent throughout.
I've spent 25 years working in gardens: learning in my family's landscaping business, then managing complex builds for Chelsea Gold-winning designers. That background - combined with training in horticulture, art and design - shapes how I approach projects now: clean lines, naturalistic planting, and materials chosen for how they age and sit together.
I'm pre-registered with the Society of Garden and Landscape Designers and work with trusted contractors and other designers I've collaborated with for years.
